District Consultant Librarian Position

Position: Library Assistant, Part Time, Children’s Services

Responsibilities: Provides support to the development and implementation of children’s services programming, activities, and purchasing. Assists in developing and marketing library programs, reading programs, and young adult activities, with special attention given to the library’s summer reading program. Takes an active role in cooperative programming and networking with community agencies, schools, and home-schoolers. Assists patrons in the children’s department, providing reference and reader’s advisory services. Uses an integrated library automated system (Polaris) for checking materials in and out, registering customers for new cards, placing holds and collecting money for fines and other services; shelves library materials.

Requirements:
Education and experience:

  • Graduation from high school or GED
  • One year of experience, preferably in children and young adult library services, education, theater, or recreation, with demonstrated ability to plan and deliver appropriate programs

Necessary knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Some knowledge of the principles and practices of children and young adult programs, children’s literature, and community program needs.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and implement children and young adult library programs, ability to deliver storytimes and other programs
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

Hours: Approximately 20-24 hours per week. These hours will include weekday daytime hours, 4 evening hours assigned to circulation desk, and some weekend days.

Requirements: Degree or certificate showing satisfactory completion of a formal educational program in computer technology or related field. Six month’s experience in a networked environment. The Board of Trustees of the Lansdowne Public Library seeks a dynamic, community minded Library Director for this very busy, active library located in a charming diverse, Philadelphia suburb of Delaware County. Lycoming County Library System Consumer Health Librarian Position at James V. Brown Library

An information professional (professional or paraprofessional) is needed to join the James V. Brown Library’s Information Services/Reference team in Williamsport. Information Services Librarians help people find the information they need for business, health, school or personal reasons and are skilled in using online resources and search strategies. While this position is an Information Generalist, consumer health is the area of subject expertise. The library will fund the costs of providing work time to earn the Consumer Health Certificate for Public Libraries which is offered online by the Medical Library Association.

A Masters Degree in Library Science or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with successful online searching, customer service and advanced problems solving skills required. Salary is mid 30’s, plus benefits. This position has a varying work schedule and includes some evenings and weekends.

Description of Duties: SUPERVISOR: SHERRILL ROWE
This is a professional position of an advisory and coordinating nature in establishing, developing, and promoting school library programs.
Provides leadership and expertise to school library professionals in the effective use of information resources and instructional technologies to meet the Pennsylvania Academic Standards and provide high quality School Improvement Planning technical assistance and support.

Provides advice and technical assistance to school library personnel, classroom teachers, and administrators on the best practices on school library program management, organization, implementation of information literacy skills across the curriculum, collection development, information technology, scheduling, and other related matters. This includes providing leadership in fully integrating school library management with the School Improvement Planning process, as well as cross-program work on Classrooms for the Future initiatives.

Provides professional development for practicing school librarians, teachers, and school administrators by conducting workshops and by working with consultants who develop train-the-trainer workshops.

Provides advisory services to local school districts on school library design and construction; selection and organization of instructional materials/resources; duties and responsibilities of professional and clerical school library personnel; budgeting and purchasing procedures; and the utilization of instructional materials/resources and equipment by classroom teachers, administrators, and students.

Fosters collaboration between school librarians and classroom teachers, the School Improvement Team in the school and district, Classroom for the Futures coaches, and focuses on school and student achievement.

Conducts onsite evaluations of school libraries, the integration of school improvement and monitors grants as needed.

Collaborates with other state agencies and with other Bureaus/Divisions in the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Serves as a school library liaison to the ACCESS PENNSYLVANIA Database Project.

Develops and organizes workshops, in-service programs, and continuing education/professional development programs related to all phases of the school library program.

Maintains contact via electronic networking and attendance at conferences or workshops with local, state, regional, and national professional organizations concerned with school library programs, school improvement processes and practices.

Interprets, both orally and in writing, the rules and regulations of the School Laws of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Code, including Chapter 4 curriculum regulations, as they relate to the school library program, as well as requirements for the School Improvement Planning process and Framework.

Disseminates school library related materials/resources to local school officials through the media of correspondence, conferences, workshops, and publications.

Performs other related duties as required.
