The District Trainer is a dual position split between the Capital Area Library District and the Dauphin County Library System. In the district role, the District Trainer creates and delivers trainings for staff on our shared eResources. These trainings introduce staff to the contents and capabilities of our resources, display tips and tricks to using them, provide a supported workshop environment, and offer ideas for how to share resources with our patrons. Who can attend trainings?
Paid staff at any of the public libraries in the Capital Area Library District are invited to attend. Supervisor approval is required, as these are paid training hours.
What types of trainings are offered?
Trainings focus on the eResources shared by the District. These trainings are still in development, so we have the opportunity to prioritize based on the needs of the libraries. Currently available:
- Learning Express Library
- Genealogy and MyHeritage
When are trainings held?
Check the Google Calendar below for currently scheduled District trainings.
Where are trainings held?
Trainings will be held throughout the District at System Hubs. Each system in the district contains at least one hub. Staff can attend at whichever location works best for them.
How do I register?
The events listed on the Google Calendar each include a link to a registration form. Follow that link and provide staff name and email, supervisor name and email, home library, and indicate the session you’d like staff to attend. Please register your staff at least a week before the training occurs. Trainings will run with a minimum of 3 participants.
How do I request a training?
In addition to the trainings held at System Hubs, individual libraries can request a training at a staff meeting or professional development day. These must be scheduled with the District Trainer in advance and are dependent upon schedule availability.

Please note: eResource training is a form of continuing education for library staff, and does meet the requirements of the Continuing Education programs approved by the Office of Commonwealth Libraries. Staff who participate in the trainings offered by our District Trainer will receive a continuing education certificate, signed by the Capital Area District Consultant Librarian.
