Assistant Director: Reading Public Library

LOCATION: Reading, PA 19601

POSITION: Assistant Director

RESPONSIBILITIES: Including but not limited to matters such as hiring, dismissing, and promoting staff; developing staff orientation programs; settling grievances; counseling staff; assuring that library policies and procedures are followed; creating staff schedules; and monitoring staff for compliance to policies. A background in public relations, marketing, or business management is desirable.

REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of four years of library experience and two years of supervisory experience. His or her personal qualities must include demonstrated leadership ability, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and decision-making and problem-solving expertise. In addition he or she must possess public speaking skills and the ability to deal effectively with individuals, groups, and the media. Other key skills include initiative, creativity, time management, and a knowledge of technology-related services, including Horizon ILS. Preference will be given to candidates with an ALA-accredited MLS.
