Youth Services Summit

The North Central Library District’s Youth Services Summit will take place on May 14th and 15th at the James V. Brown Library in Williamsport, PA.

The presenters for the summit are:

Ron Fairchild, Executive Director of the National Center for Summer Learning at John Hopkins
University speaking about the “Summer Slide” and the impact of reading during the summer on school success.

Michael Sullivan, author of Connecting Boys With Books speaking about practical, proven, and sometimes off-beat suggestions on how to turn boys into life-long readers.

Saroj Ghoting, one of the seven national trainers for the Every Child Ready to Read @ your library® initiative and is the co-author of Early Literacy Storytimes @ your library published by the American Library Association.

Guys Read

Join Maggie Snow, Program Specialist for the Hennepin County Library via videoconferencing as she discusses Guy’s Read, a program that targets boys and their reading habits. The program was created by author, Jon Scieszka.

TEEN TECH PROJECT

Join Jen Nelson, manages the Teen Tech Project for the Hennepin County Library System as discusses the innovative Scratch-based technology programming that Hennepin Library offers and inspires you to involve youth in teaching other youth with this unique and affordable program.

A Child’s View of Art: Natural Storytellers

Artist, Aleta Wynn Yarrow shares her fresh perspective on children’s approaches to painting and sculpture. She provides tools for understanding children’s creative and narrative processes, and suggests appropriate materials and activities to help you encourage children through the process.

Rotary Art Auction Benefit

Special Event Date: April 26, 2009

The Hummelstown Rotary Club is holding a benefit silent art auction on April 26th from 5 – 8 p.m. for which tickets are required. The auction will be held on both floors of the law offices of Wion, Zulli and Seibert at 113 E. Main Street, Hummelstown. A variety of juried original art, limited edition prints and quality collectibles will be available for bidding.

The gala evening of April 26th will be catered by Roxy’s Chatterbox Cafe with music by Reuel Ryman and final bids may be submitted during the evening.
