Technology Showcase: Cool Tools for Connecting with
and Marketing to your Community

This is your chance to take the first workshop presented to us by the newly-hired John Houser, Technology Coordinator of HSLC.

Some outstanding librarians, doing phenomenal things with web 2.0 marketing, will also present. Librarian presenters include Sheila Redcay (York and Doylestown), Melinda Tanner, Kelly Rottmund and Kelley Beeson (Washington), Lisa Rives Collens (State College), and Leah Rudolph and Sandy Longo of the Abington Community Library, Mary Garm, and Elizabeth Davis (Scranton).

It is also an opportunity to enter a drawing to win a Flip Video Camera, used to create YouTube videos. (We will use the camera for a demonstration first and then draw the lucky winner’s name.)

What will you learn? Topics include:

·iPhone and ubiquitous connectivity
·Kindle and other e-book readers
·Flip camcorder and YouTube
·Eee PC and netbook class computers
·OpenOffice.org and low cost open source public workstations
·Social software sites for professional connectivity and networking (Linkedin, Plaxo, Facebook, Twitter, advanced Google tools)
·How web 2.0 technology is being used in libraries today for marketing and connecting to the community

Learning about these technologies will help you to:

·Develop library services that provide all users access to information through local, state, regional, national, and international electronic networks
·Develop public and private partnerships with other agencies and community-based organizations
·Target library services to individuals of diverse geographic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, to individuals with disabilities, and to individuals with limited functional literacy or information skills
·Target library and information services to persons having difficulty using a library and to underserved urban and rural communities, including children (from birth through age 17) from families with incomes below the poverty line.

The cost of the workshop is $10.00, which includes lunch and coffee.

It is our desire that after taking this workshop, you will become more familiar with current technologies and you will learn to connect with your community using web 2.0 technology.
