PaLA 2009 Awards

PaLA is still accepting nominations for the 2009 Awards that will recognize individuals and libraries for remarkable contributions in service. Help us to honor our esteemed colleagues in public, academic, and special libraries-and to recognize the very best among us.

Take the time to nominate a person you know who embodies the camaraderie of libraries. It’s one of the best ways to recognize excellence and to thank the people you value most. All you have to do is complete the nomination form (you must complete a separate form for each nominee in each category).

Please send your nominations for the following awards:

·Distinguished Service Award-presented to an individual in recognition of meritorious service

·Certificate of Merit-awarded to individuals having made outstanding contributions to PA libraries over the past five years

·Elected Official Award-given to an elected official(s) for exemplary support of library service in Pennsylvania

·New Librarian Honors Award-acknowledges the originality and inventiveness of a librarian who has been in the profession fewer than six years

·Trustee of the Year Award-given to a public library trustee to recognize outstanding leadership and service

·Library Support Staff Recognition Award-presented to a Library that encourages its support staff in career development

ARSL Scholarship Opportunity

The Association for Rural and Small Libraries is pleased to announce that they are offering 2 scholarships for their upcoming conference in Gatlinburg, TN.

This conference, scheduled for Sept 11-13, is specifically designed to meet the needs of library directors, staff and trustees working in small and/or rural libraries across the country. These Scholarships are in honor of Dr. Bernard Vavrek – Founder and Director of the Center for the Study of Rural Librarianship at Clarion University and the other is in honor of the founding board members – those individuals who formed the initial board of the ARSL.
