What’s the Big Idea? Workshop

What’s the Big Idea? workshop will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.on Thursday, February 25th at the Hershey Library. Directions can be found on their website: www.hersheylibrary.org

Earn three hours of continuing education credits for attending.

Agenda is as follows:

I. What IS the Big Idea and how it relates to state standards
II. Fun graphing activity (we promise!)
III. Real life experiences of using What’s the Big Idea in a local library
IV. Hands-on exploration of program materials with a special focus on Make a Splash! Summer theme
V. How to plan What’s the Big Idea programs, including hands-on planning time
VI. Conclusion & evaluation

Library Director: Luzerne County

The Board of Trustees of the Pittston Memorial Library is seeking a library director to continue the growth and expansion of our local public library.

Located in Pittston City, the library serves 8,104 city residents, as well as the municipalities comprising the Pittston Area School District, having a combined population of well over 28,000 people. The library has an annual budget of approximately $185,000.00 and has a staff of 3 full-time employees.

The candidate preferably should have a Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited school. Ideally, the candidate should have 5 years of library experience with at least 2 years as a supervisor. A candidate with library certification and 5 years of library and supervisory experience would also be considered. Candidate should be an outgoing, motivated, organized self-starter with excellent public relations and communication skills.

Other qualifications include:

Experience with budget and financial matters
Experience with collection development and programming
Thorough knowledge of current trends in library/library science
Thorough knowledge of library reference sources (print and digital)
Thorough knowledge of children’s, young adult, and adult literature
Experience with management of technology programs within a library setting
Excellent human relations skills
Established supervisory skills
Ability to work productively with an active and involved Library Board

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
