			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Chester County Libray in Exton is seeking a Business Librarian.  This position in the Reference Department is responsible for providing business and general reference services to the public and member libraries in a fast-paced, high-volume suburban Philadelphia public library.  Developing and marketing specialized services to business, presenting programs in libraries and the community, and maintaining current content of the library&#8217;s business website are some of the responsibilities of this position.  </p>
<p>This full time exempt position requires M.L.S., A.L.A. accredited, with 2+ years broad-based general and business reference experience, thorough knowledge of online and print, general and business reference resources, and strong online search skills.  Familiarity with automated systems and Windows environment, strong commitment to public and customer service, excellent oral and written presentation and communication skills, ability to work well under pressure is necessary.  A current PA driver&#8217;s license is required.  Salary range available beginning at $40,414.92 annually based on education and experience.  The 35 hour work week is weekdays 9:00 a.m. &#8211; 5:00 p.m. with occasional evenings and weekends.</p>
<p>All library positions require both criminal background and child abuse clearances.  Candidates who have not lived in PA in the past 5 years will be required to obtain an FBI fingerprint check.  For further information about this process can be found at:<br />

When customers ask you about the different ereaders, this site is a resource to direct them to for explanation of ereaders and some comparisons of features: <a href="http://ereaderresource.com/">ereaderresource.com</a>  Check out the <a href="http://ereaderresource.com/basics/">basics</a> for an overview.<br />
Also please remember that anything with a screen with text or pictures can be used as a reader.   Those popular apple products, mobile phones, netbooks, laptops, desktop computers, and even television (hooked up to your computer) can be a reader for content produced in digital format.  Those may not give the &#8220;reading&#8221; experience or have the awesome e-ink, bookmarking, note-taking, portability, or size features, but there is a way to read the content if you have a computer and access to the internet.  </p>
<p>As of the day of this posting, the public libraries in the three county Capital Area Library District do not offer any commercial service for downloading print ebook content to the popular e-readers, however, full text versions of many novels and works of reference and nonfiction are available online through Netlibrary, one of the resources in POWERlibrary.  If you have your library card handy, login to see what is available: <a href="http://www.powerlibrary.net/Remote/Remote.asp?ID=DCLS&#038;Link=NET">ebooks from Netlibrary</a></p>
<p><strong>Listeners:</strong><br />
Library customers do have access to a public library sponsored collection of downloadable audiobooks at <a href="http://capitalarealibrary.lib.overdrive.com/">http://capitalarealibrary.lib.overdrive.com/</a> </p>
<p>The OverDrive service just released an app for the iphone so users can skip the download to their personal computer and just download direct to their iphone. There is a mobile version of the site for those with other smart phone operating systems.  </p>
<p>Digital media is changing the way content is provided in all parts of the industry.  What should libraries do about it?  </p>

Great facts from this report could be useful in presentations to your community about the value of library technology resources.  Below are just a few samples to get you to read more yourself:<br />
-44 percent of people in households living below the federal poverty line ($22,000 a year for a family of four) used public library computers and Internet access.<br />
-The study explored eight areas where people reported using library computers in the past 12 months: education, employment, health and wellness, accessing government and legal services and information, participating in community life, managing household finances, entrepreneurship, and building and maintaining social connections.<br />
-In the study, 40 percent of the respondents (30 million people) used<br />
library computers and internet access for employment or career<br />
purposes.</p>

<p>What&#8217;s the BIG Idea? &#8482; will help you make math and science connections to the programs you&#8217;re already doing with young children and their families. It will help you bring science and mathematics content, skills and processes to almost any interaction you have with them.</p>
<p>With What&#8217;s the BIG Idea? &#8482; you will:</p>
<p>* Increase the number of children attending your programs<br />
* Get children excited about math and science<br />
* Use hands-on activities to make books come alive<br />
* Meet national and state education standards<br />
* Have fun!</p>
<p>Children learn math and science by doing math and science. They need to ask questions, have discussions, explore using a variety of materials, collect data and talk about what they&#8217;re doing. <p>This year&#8217;s workshop features 4 speakers presenting self-defense tactics, relaxation techniques, active listening skills and the new technology topic&#8211;transliteracy! Each presentation will be held in both the morning and afternoon sessions so that you will be able to attend any two you choose.</p>
<p>The workshop will include a lunch catered by Isaac&#8217;s and the lunch will include a brief presentation on how libraries are structured and financed in Pennsylvania.</p>

* Digitization with an emphasis on materials that can be used for K-16 education<br />
* Collection Development for Consumer Health materials<br />
* Technology components. A 75% match would be required.<br />
* Major Innovation grants for up to $50,000 that would be exemplary on a broad level<br />
* Mini (new to you) Innovation for grants up to $5,000</p>
