Library System Administrator Position: Butler County

The Board of the Butler County Federated Library System is seeking candidates for the position of Library System Administrator. In order to fill the position quickly, the Board will be accepting resumes and references by e-mail through September 20,2010. The work involves a flexible schedule of 4-5 days per week, 37.5 hours per week. The starting salary is $35,000 – $40,000.

BCFLS Administrator reports to Butler County Federated Library System Board of Trustees. Under the direction of the BCFLS Board, this position is directly responsible for the administration and management of the Butler County Federated Library System. Qualifications: Masters Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association-accredited program, with at least 3 years experience in a public library in an administrative or supervisory capacity.

Supervises: All BCFLS Staff (sometimes through other supervisory personnel)

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include:

Oversees and evaluates the operation of the multi-site library system
Develops library policies, procedures, and practices, and implements and administers them upon approval of the BCFLS Board.
Formulates library goals and objectives in conjunction with the BCFLS Board and plans library services designed to meet them.
Prepares an annual budget for approval by the BCFLS Board and administers and monitors the expenditure of funds.
Leads, directs, and supervises the staff of the Butler County Federated Library System, directly and through other supervisory personnel.
Develops and implements effective administrative programs and procedures in collaboration with the Library Directors, District and State Library personnel.
Promotes staff development at all levels.
Implements Board personnel policies, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, orienting, and overseeing training of new employees, reviewing, evaluating performance, and termination decisions.
Maintains confidentiality of all patron records and transactions.
Solicits quotes for services and purchases, presenting all contracts and recommendations to the BCFLS Board.
Oversees the preparation of timely reports on usage, financials, circulation, services and programs for the BCFLS Board, state library, and other governmental units.
Responsible for professional collection development and maintenance.
Develops and oversees library technology and automation while balancing new and traditional formats and services.
Serves as a spokesperson and advocate for the library system throughout the county.
Oversees fundraising activities for the library system.
Represents and maintains active involvement by BCFLS within the New Castle District and Commonwealth Libraries.
Coordinates system services with those of the district, state library, school districts, and other nearby systems.
Represents the Library at meetings and conferences of professional library associations.
Insures that all member libraries are aware of and adhere to state mandated requirements of service.
Approves all purchases for payment.
Implements regular library staff meetings.
Attends all BCFLS Board of Trustees meetings and is available for Board meeting for each member library if needed.

Web Services Librarian: Scranton

The Medical Library in the The Commonwealth Medical College in Scanton is seeking a web services librarian. The Web Services Librarian is primarily responsible for developing, maintaining and supporting the TCMC Medical Library website. By working collaboratively with librarians, faculty and students on the Medical Library website’s contents, this position will provide support to the TCMC curriculum and instructional program components. A primary responsibility is ensuring that high quality online materials and a wide array of electronic and print collection resources are readily available to virtual medical library users on a variety of platforms. This position will also lead evaluation efforts such as administering surveys and evaluating EZ Proxy data. The Web Services Librarian will also work closely with librarians and library staff on a variety of projects and initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Content Creation for the Medical Library Website: collaborate with library units and content providers to create websites that support organizational strategies and goals. Create, or coordinate as a member of the medical library team, the online instructional components to support the library’s information literacy and informatics programs, such as tutorials, podcasts, blogs and wikis; design, develop and manage the virtual medical library website by performing webpage programming and providing technical maintenance; develop technical documentation related to the virtual medical library website to ensure quality control of projects and compliance with standards recommended by TCMC; provide leadership and recommendations for new technologies, such as handheld devices, and web-based applications, and assist with implementation of these new technologies.

2. Assist with Management of Electronic Resources: manage the A to Z e-journals and e-books lists; Troubleshoot technology problems for library clientele; Assist in the evaluation, selection and promotion of electronic resources; Identify, evaluate and contribute relevant content for the library’s website including high-quality, relevant documents and site links, and new e-resources; train, or arrange training for, end-users and staff in the use of electronic resources; assist with promoting alternative publishing models such as PubMed Central.

3. Public Services: The Web Services Librarian will participate in public services delivery to faculty and students both on the TCMC main campus and at the regional campuses. This position will engage in both formal and informal communication methods to learn about and meet user needs; assist students with research papers, troubleshoot electronic resources access issues and provide other direct public services via e-mail, phone or in-person.

4. Information Literacy and Informatics: The Web Services Librarian will participate in information literacy and medical informatics training and initiatives in partnership with TCMC librarians, the office of Academic Informatics and the office of Medical Informatics. These functions include supporting faculty development and medical informatics training and educational classes; and helping to troubleshoot access to library resources.

5. Service: Contribute to the Medical Library team and serve on TCMC internal/external committees by working cooperatively on library-wide initiatives as appropriate to position functions. Participate in statewide, regional and national library organizations.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
• This position reports to the Director of the Library.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
• Master’s degree in library and information science (MLS or MSLS) from an ALA accredited program.
• Experience in developing and building websites and in providing technical maintenance.

Public Services Librarian: Scranton

The Medical Library in the Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton has a full-time, entry level position for a Public Services Librarian. The Public Services Librarian is primarily responsible for coordinating the full range of public service functions such as Information Services Desk services and staffing; document delivery and interlibrary loan, reference, tours and research assistance. A strong public services perspective, experience and enthusiasm for delivering library services both to campus-located and distant clientele, and an interest in developing new and innovative services are required. There will be a strong focus on medical informatics and expansion of library public services as the college continues to grow. The Public Services Librarian supervises a part time library assistant and a part time library volunteer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Public Services; coordinate and deliver public services to faculty, staff and students both on the TCMC main campus and

Library Director Position: Juniata County

The Board of Directors of the Juniata County Library, Mifflintown, Pennsylvania is seeking a Library Director who is dynamic, eager to meet exciting new challenges, and has a vision for leading the Juniata County Library into the future.

Serving a rural population of over 22,800 area residents, the library has a budget of approximately $230,000 and has a staff of 10 part-time employees. Description:
Reporting to the Dean of University Libraries and serving as part of the Libraries’ senior executive team, the Director will merge the collections and staff currently within the Urban Archives and Special Collections operating units. The Urban Archives include the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin Collection, the Philadelphia Jewish Archives, a growing local television news archive, and organizational records from over 250 regional organizations. In addition to Rare Books, & Manuscripts, the current Special Collections department includes the Philadelphia Dance, Contemporary Culture, Artists’ Books, Science Fiction, and Conwellana-Templana collections.

Going forward, the Director will:
• establish divisional and functional priorities for processing, preservation, access, reference, instruction, and outreach;
• supervise 4 full-time direct reports and a total staff of 11 full-time employees;
• participate in library-wide executive leadership, strategic planning, and policy creation with the Dean, Associate University Librarians, and Directors;
• manage the budget for special collections acquisitions, student staffing, grant-funded projects, and other initiatives;

Parkland Community Library, a private, non-profit community agency located in Lehigh County, PA, seeks an experienced Library Director. Statement of Responsibilities
Advises youth services librarians, library directors and para-professional staff of both the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library and the public libraries of the Montgomery County Library District on matters related to collection development, reference and reader’s advisory service, programming and administration of service to children and young adults.

Organizational Relationships
Ensures that the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library, in its capacity as District Library Center for the public libraries of Montgomery County, provides leadership, support and coordination for youth services throughout the district. Serves as liaison between youth services librarians at district libraries and the various departments of the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library. Serves as liaison between public libraries of Montgomery County and organizations such as the Intermediate Unit, school districts, head start, social service agencies, and governmental organizations.

General Responsibilities and Examples of Work

Staff supervision and training
Identifies training needs for youth services staff of the Montgomery County District. Plans appropriate training to meet these needs.

Visits district libraries to advise, evaluate and assess the quality of youth services. Provides support and guidance to local youth service librarians and their administrators in areas such as collection development, programming, and services.

Public service responsibilities:

Coordinates District Summer Reading Program in cooperation and coordination with the statewide (national collaborative) reading themes.

Statement of Responsibilities

Organizational Relationships
