Library Director Position: Allentown

The Board of Directors of the Allentown Public Library is seeking a creative and dynamic Library Director for one of the busiest public libraries in Pennsylvania.

The Allentown Public Library is located in Allentown, Pennsylvania and directly serves a diverse urban population of 106,632. As a district center, the library also provides support services to the residents and local libraries of Lehigh and Carbon counties. The library director oversees a budget of $2.5 million, a staff of approximately 40 full and part-time employees, and a collection of approximately 250,000 items.

A successful candidate must have a Master’s Degree from an ALA accredited school, at least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in urban public libraries, and a background in developing partnerships and advocacy for local government and community-based funding.

The community’s new state-of-the-art library building was finished in 2005. Over 300,000 people visited the library in 2008, checking out over 706,000 items. The Oakmont Carnegie Library is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Library Director. We are looking for a director who is friendly, energetic, and who possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills to carry the library towards its vision, working with the board, staff, library and community organizations to make the library a center of lifelong learning.

The Library Director is responsible for carrying out the policies and procedures of the Library Board as they affect both library customers and employees. Administrative responsibilities include collection development, personnel management, maintenance of building and equipment, and budget preparation and management. The Library Director also represents the Library at local, county, district and state meetings.

The library, a department of the Borough of Oakmont and a member of the Allegheny County Library Association, has a budget of approximately $375,000 annually, 1 full-time, 8 part-time staff and 4 pages, and currently serves a local population of 6,911 that is expected to expand over the next few years.

The Punxsutawney Memorial Library is seeking an innovative individual interested in joining our team as library director. The Board of Directors of the Hoyt Library is seeking a dynamic Library Director who will build on the Library’s past successes while meeting the exciting challenge of opening a beautiful new wing.

The Hoyt Library is located in Kingston, and serves seven communities in Northeastern Pennsylvania, having a combined population of over 33,000. The Hoyt is a member of the Luzerne County Library System. The library has an annual budget of approximately $600,000 and has a staff of 4 full-time employees and 10 part-time employees.

A part-time Business Reference Librarian position is available for a service oriented, highly motivated professional. This individual will provide service at the Business Reference Desk during hours not covered by the full-time Business Reference Librarian. Using the Business Center’s robust electronic and print resources, the Business Reference Librarian will provide quick business reference service and in-depth business research to start-up and existing businesses of all sizes. In addition to business clients, the Center serves the non-profit community. As a Foundation Center Cooperating Collection site, Duke Street Business Center offers access to the Foundation Directory Online database and core print resources. Additional responsibilities include workshop instruction and event planning and hosting.
