<p>The Dept. of Labor and Industry and the Office of Commonwealth Libraries invite you to attend a PA Workforce services webinar.  The webinar will present an overview of workforce information that the public may access at PCs located within the State&#8217;s libraries.  During the webinar staff from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry will review some of the online services and functionality available to public users through the internet.  In addition, information will be provided on resources available through two key workforce websites - the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry website and the PA workforce website.  Some topics to be discussed and demonstrated will include:</p>

Pennsylvania Libraries: Leading for Life</p>
<p>November 9 – 12, 2008<br />
Valley Forge Convention Center</p>
<p>The 2008 Conference Committee has been hard at work planning this year’s conference in Valley Forge.  A PDF file of the Annual Conference Brochure is available on the brand new PaLA web site, www.palibaries.org.</p>
<p>Online registration for the conference is also available – just click on the 2008 PaLA Annual Conference link on the right side of the home page. You will also see links for a listing of sessions, as well as the opportunity to print/view your itinerary after you register.  </p>
<p>You can register online and pay with a credit card, or you can opt in to send a check to PaLA.  What’s more, online registrants can avoid the $10 processing fee assessed to paper registrations!  Libraries registering multiple staff can save big, as the $10 online savings is available for each registration.  Invoices can be printed during the registration process and submitted to the library’s accounting department for remittance – and a group of registrations can be paid with one check.</p>
<p>What’s more, the online registration process will be linked with the PaLA membership database, pre-populating much of the registration information for members and saving you time!  Simply log in as a member to receive the PaLA member discounted rate and this time-saving benefit.  Username and password instructions will be shared at the log-in prompt.  Non-members can also enjoy the savings and ease of online registration by registering as a non-member and can easily download a membership application should they wish to join and take advantage of the discounted member rate.    </p>
<p>For even more savings, the early bird registration rate is available through September 30, 2008. (Save an additional $20 for full conference and $10 on the daily rate).  After September 30, you will still be able to register, but at the regular conference rates.  We encourage you to register today!  You will not want to miss the fantastic line-up of programs, poster sessions, exhibitors, guest authors, luncheons, dinners and tours available during the conference. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><font color="#006699" face="verdana">This year the <strong>18th Annual CODI Conference</strong> will be held at the lovely <strong>Westin Convention Center in Pittsburgh, PA</strong> from <strong>November 7-9, 2007</strong>. The Westin Convention Center is located in the heart of the business and art center of Pittsburgh and is attached, via a skyway, to the nation&#8217;s first 100% environmentally green convention center, the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.</font></p>
<p><font color="#006699" face="verdana"><strong>Eat, Think and Share!</strong> is the theme of the conference this year and is a reflection of what the CODI Conference does so well. It is the best opportunity to learn (and think about) the ever changing face of technology, to hear our colleagues&#8217; unique solutions to common problems, and review new products or new features from SirsiDynix and the vendors who attend this annual conference. It is a time to share our thoughts and discoveries with our contemporaries. And, of course, it is a great time to sit down and break bread with both our old friends and new acquaintances.</font></p>
<p><font color="#006699" face="verdana">The Keynote speaker this year will be <strong>Roy Tennant</strong>, author of a number of books including Managing the Digital Library (2004).  Roy is also the author of the monthly column “Digital Libraries” for the Library Journal, and a recognized pioneer in digital library development and internet training.</font></p>
