Starting in 2009, all State-aided Public Libraries will have access to “SummerReader” from Evanced Solutions. This web-based product has been designed to help libraries manage reading programs.

Reference librarians are encouraged to attend to find out what resources the state provides to the public.

The Dept. of Labor and Industry and the Office of Commonwealth Libraries invite you to attend a PA Workforce services webinar. The webinar will present an overview of workforce information that the public may access at PCs located within the State’s libraries. During the webinar staff from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry will review some of the online services and functionality available to public users through the internet. In addition, information will be provided on resources available through two key workforce websites - the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry website and the PA workforce website. Some topics to be discussed and demonstrated will include:

*Creating a Log-in ID for public users
*Creating a profile
*Building a resume
*Searching for jobs
*Applying to jobs
*Unemployment compensation law &regulation information
*Applying for unemployment compensation
*Tour of Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry website

Berks County Public Libraries is issuing an invitation to subscribers of PAPUBLIB to attend an upcoming workshop on Fund Raising. The featured speaker is Dee Jay Oshry, a certified fund raising executive with 31 years of experience. Mr. Oshry comes highly recommended from libraries who have heard his presentation. This powerful program will help you learn techiques to secure additional funding for your library. The workshop is suggested for Librarians, Trustees, and Friends.

E-rate Update Webinar

To help all Pennsylvania applicants prepare for the upcoming E-rate Year 12 (FY2009) application cycle and to provide important information about new CIPA requirements and E-rate audits, there will be an E-rate webinar that will provide updates and refreshers to all veteran E-rate applicants. If you are a nonprofit administrator or board member currently involved in fundraising or intending to implement some fundraising efforts, you need to attend this program. The technical aspects of fundraising activities and accounting for these activities are not something you want to overlook. Now that the IRS, the department of state and donors are in a heightened state of awareness about fundraising practices, attendance at this session will help you be prepared and prevent risk.

This seminar is presented by PANO and McKonly & Asbury. It is sponsored by The Hershey Company. The key areas of focus will be:

*Accounting for Fundraising: What is the right way to account for special events? When can we allocate costs jointly? When are government dollars considered program and when are they fundraising revenue? What is a fundraising expense?
