IMLS Connecting to Collections Bookshelf

Museums, Libraries, and Archives are urged to apply for a free IMLS Connecting to Collections Bookshelf.

To help raise the conservation IQ of museums, libraries, and archives, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), in cooperation with the American Association of State and Local History (AASLH), is offering 2000 free copies of the Connecting to Collections Bookshelf, a core set of books, DVDs, online resources, and an annotated bibliography that are essential for the care of collections.

A simple electronic application for the IMLS Bookshelf is available at the following link: MLS Bookshelf Application.


The IMLS Bookshelf will be awarded free in two application periods:

September 1 – November 15, 2007, with recipients announced in February 2008.
March 1 – April 15, 2008, with recipients announced in July 2008.

Read About It! Grant Recipients

The Pennsylvania Humanities Council is pleased to announce the 23 public libraries and friends groups chosen for Read About It!, the Pennsylvania Humanities Council’s series of “packaged” book discussion programs.

Through informal discussions with an expert facilitator, Read About It! exposes people to new authors and gives them tools to deepen their reading experience. The programs appeal to popular interests and engage readers from all walks of life in the humanities.

These 23 libraries will host discussion groups in Fall 2007 and Spring 2008.

This application process is quite competitive.  Congratulations to these libraries!

You don’t have to be a media mogul to create audio and video for iPods

Getting started is easier than you might think. There are three key parts to implementing podcasting successfully at your library: creating the podcast content, distributing the podcasts, and, if possible, aggregating and syncing to iPods locally (if you choose to manage and circulate iPods to your patrons). If you choose not to circulate the hardware, creation and distribution are the only necessary steps to begin exploring.
